How This Assessment Works
This assessment identifies your unique pattern of classroom participation challenges. You'll rate 12 scenarios based on how difficult they feel for you. Remember: this isn't about general confidence - it's about specific academic speaking situations.
Rate each scenario from 1 (very difficult) to 5 (very easy)
1. Answering a direct question from your tutor when you know the answer well
2. Contributing to small group discussion (3-4 peers) about familiar course material
3. Asking for clarification when confused during a lecture (raising hand)
4. Disagreeing respectfully with a peer's interpretation during seminar discussion
5. Presenting your prepared ideas when it's your turn in a roundtable discussion
6. Volunteering an original insight during open seminar discussion
7. Asking your professor a question during their office hours (one-on-one)
8. Defending your position when directly challenged by the professor
9. Interrupting politely to join a fast-moving seminar debate
10. Explaining complex ideas when put on the spot without preparation
11. Leading a small group project discussion as the designated coordinator
12. Admitting confusion or lack of understanding in front of the whole class
